When Walmart wanted to launch an epic new curbside grocery pickup service, we knew we had to launch it in an epic way. Thus was born the Walmart Famous Cars campaign—a truly colossal mashup of famous film and TV cars. After all, if Walmart Online Grocery Pickup is good enough for Batman, Bumblebee and Kitt, it’s good enough for your average suburban family.
Designed to demonstrate how Walmart’s new Online Grocery Pickup worked, the campaign debuted during the 2019 Golden Globe Awards and also ran during Super Bowl LIII.
The film went viral at launch, with over 20 million views in 24 hours and 700 million earned media impressions in a week. Thanks to the film, Walmart’s e-commerce sales rose 43%, and more than a million people downloaded the Online Grocery Pickup app.
